Auction house Sotheby’s is gearing up to sell one of the world’s great natural treasures within a cache of high-jewelry.
On April 4, Sotheby’s Hong Kong will host the Magnificent Jewels and Jadeite auction. The auction house’s spring sale will feature rare treasures from nature alongside contemporary designs and iconic jewelers.

Lots at Magnificent Jewels and Jadeite include a 3.31 carat Fancy Intense Blue diamond, an Internally Flawless Diamond and a pair of ruby and diamond bangles designed by BHAGAT and a diamond and natural pearl necklace.
The auction will also feature an Art Deco Gem Set and Diamond Mystery Clock by Cartier. Other high-profile brands included in the auction are Van Cleef & Arpels, Tiffany & Co. and Bulgari.
Sotheby’s April 4 auction’s “star attraction” is the Pink Star diamond. The diamond is 59.60 carats and is oval and mixed-cut in shape and profile.
The Pink Star is the largest Internally Flawless, Fancy Vivid Pink diamond to ever be graded by the GIA.
Sotheby’s estimates that the Pink Star, featured in a simple ring setting, will sell for upwards of $60 million, a price that will break records for a pink-colored diamond.
In May 2016, a 15.38-carat pear-shaped pink diamond became the most expensive stone of its kind to sell at auction.
The stone, sold by Cora International on May 17 via Sotheby’s auction, was sold for $31.5 million during the auctioneer’s Magnificent Jewels Sale in Geneva. The rare, sought-after diamond, called the Unique Pink, was the highlight of the auction due to its clarity and pure structure (see story).
