Swiss watchmaker Breitling will be selling a limited-edition line of watches that have physically toured the world to celebrate the 77th anniversary of its iconic DC-3 plane.

The Breitling DC-3 will be celebrating its milestone with a major tour around world from March to September 2017. The plane will be transporting the new timepieces so that customers can say their watches have been around the world.

“The Breitling DC-3 World Tour, which kicks off today, will be an amazing accomplishment for the legendary plane. Celebrating its 77th birthday, the Breitling DC-3 will be the oldest plane to circle the globe.

“As the authentic partner of aviation, Breitling continues demonstrating its commitment to aeronautical heritage by supporting the restoration of the DC-3. Today, there are less than 150 DC-3 aircrafts that are in flightworthy condition,”

A world tour, starting in Breitling’s home country of Switzerland in Geneva, will see the DC-3 plane landing in all continents across the globe. Fans can follow the plane’s whereabouts through an online tracker that shows where the plane is currently located on a world map.

Breitling released a schedule so fans can follow along of when and where the plane is set to takeoff and land.

The tour will end on Sept. 13, 2017 in Sion, Switzerland.

A collection of 500-piece Navitimer limited-edition watches will be onboard with the crew. Consumers can purchase the limited-edition timepiece after the plane has made its journey, so they will be able to own the watch that has truly been around the world.

The plane will be landing in cities all over the world such as Chicago, Reykjavik, Paris, Frankfurt, Tel Aviv, Dubai, Singapore and Shanghai.

A specially created Facebook has been built for the occasion. Breitling is sharing exclusive content from the tour on the Facebook with photos, videos and text updates.

For instance, an exclusive image showed the watches being transported onto the plane, with a heavy security presence keeping watch. Other photos show the flight crew, the plane in flight and flight routes.

The Swiss watchmaker recently wrote a new chapter in its support of aerodynamic accomplishments through a partnership with the maker of a flying hoverboard.

The brand sponsored athlete Franky Zapata’s Flyboard Air, an autonomous propulsion unit that allows a rider to soar over water while standing upright on an engine-powered craft. Aviation is at the heart of the Breitling brand positioning, as the watchmaker looks to associate itself with airborne individuals who require technical precision in their timepieces (see more).

Breitling also furthered its placement in the connected timepiece arena with the debut of the Exospace B55 Connected.

Breitling hailed the Exospace B55 as its most innovative crossover timepiece, having touchpoints of smartwatch technology and analog design to ensure user-friendliness. Keeping its roots, Breitling’s Exospace B55 Connected was developed, assembled and tested in Switzerland, a sign that likely swayed those still on the fence regarding Swiss-made horological electronics (see more).
