Longchamp: French Craftsmanship at its Best

p/p pandnbsp;/p pDeriving its name from the French verb andlsquo;to foldandrsquo;, Le Pliage is one of Longchampandrsquo;s bestselling creations. The handbag style was launched in 1993 by Philippe Cassegrain, son of Longchampandrsquo;s founder Jean Cassegrain. The foldable nylon tote has loyal patrons not only in the corporate world, but is also owned by fashion icons such as Katie Holmes, Amy Adams, Beyoncandeacute;, Alexa Chung, and even the Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton. The journey of Le Pliage began when Philippe Cassegrain, the current President of the French luxury brand, was appointed as the CEO of the firm in 1993. It was his trip to Japan that got him inspired by origami; he then translated the Japanese art form of folding paper into the companyandrsquo;s most coveted handbag. With an aim to merge style with convenience, the multi-coloured Le Pliage is crafted using the finest nylon and embellished with leather detailing. Unlike other tote bags, this one folds up to the size of a paper book bag, which makes it an ideal arm candy to carry on the go.br /br /strong/strong/p pstrongMaking of an icon/strongbr /Over a period of time, the bag has evolved from nylon into a complete leather handbag. Upgraded twice since its inception, once in 2012 as Le Pliage Cuir and in 2014 as Le Pliage Handeacute;ritage, the bag is just a year short of celebrating its silver jubilee. While they all retain their foldable silhouette, the procedure to make these handbags is quite distinct. andldquo; Each bag requires different procedures and relies on the teamandrsquo;s skills. Comprising numerous stages and manual operations, this process is based on Longchampandrsquo;s expertise and precision for all bags, andrdquo; says Jean Cassegrain, CEO, Longchamp. Crafted at the brandandrsquo;s Segre workshops in western France, Le Pliage is a fine example of Longchampandrsquo;s French savoir-faire. The leather for the bags comes from several countries, although primarily sourced from France and Italy. Once the leather is finalised, a prototype of the bag is created, based on the sketches shared by the design team. Following the cutting of leather, the bags are shaped, trimmed and hand stitched, before they are hot stamped with the brandandrsquo;s logo./p p style="text-align: center;"andnbsp;/p p style="text-align: center;"/p p style="text-align: center;"andnbsp;/p pstrongItandrsquo;s all in the Details/strongbr /Sharing his thoughts on the uniqueness of Le Pliage, Cassegrain adds, andldquo; What makes Le Pliage stand out is the quality of leather and materials, the expert selection and the sublimation of this leather, and the unique craftsmanship which celebrates the effort put in by 900 employees.andrdquo; The bag style evolves every six months to keep pace with the changing seasons and trends, with newer palettes and designs. andldquo; One of our key characteristics is our ability to re-invent ourselves. We have always been contemporary, in the spirit of the moment, andrdquo; he sums up, while at the launch of the brandandrsquo;s first boutique in India at DLF Emporio, New Delhi./p pandnbsp;/p pstrongMore Onandgt;andgt; a href="http://www.luxpresso.com/style/fashion" target="_blank"Fashion/a/strong/p
