Here's How Instagram Could Doom the Future of Snapchat

pAlthough I act like a 40-year-old in my daily life choices, (read: old ghazals to Drakeandrsquo;s new single, and a vintage scotch instead of beer), social media does bring the 20-something in me to life. I am not only a devoted Instagrammer with a decent number of organic followers and engagement (@karantorani), I also am up with my game on Facebook and Snapchat. In fact, I love the Snapchat filters. (Who doesnandrsquo;t?)/p pandnbsp;/p pJust when Snapchatandrsquo;s numbers were skyrocketing, both in terms of value and users, in came Instagram with andlsquo;Insta storiesandrsquo;. Of course, the idea wasnandrsquo;t novel, and many including me made fun of the not-so-subtle imitation. However, my personal experience with the new updates on Insta has made an avid social media junkie like me, too, lose touch with Snapchat.andnbsp;/p p style="text-align: center;"/p pSure the filters are fun, but whatandrsquo;s more to it? Here are five reasons I think Snapchat shouldandrsquo;ve taken the billions and shut shop when they had the chance.andnbsp;/p pandnbsp;/p p(emImage source: a rel="nofollow" href="https://tctechcrunch2011.files.wordpress.com/2016/08/instagram-stories1.jpg?w=738" target="_blank"Instagram/a)/em/p pandnbsp;/p pstrong1. The Numbers:/strong/p pNot only are the numbers of total users more on Instagram, they also outgrow Snapchatandrsquo;s active users by more than a double. (500 million monthly active users versus 100 million.) And with the option of sending personal snaps through andlsquo;Insta storiesandrsquo; users can stick to using one app and not shuffle between apps. andnbsp;/p p style="text-align: center;"/p pandnbsp;/p p(emImage source: a rel="nofollow" href="https://smartviral.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/SMART-VIRAL-INSTAGRAM-POST.png" target="_blank"Statista/a)/em/p pandnbsp;/p pstrong2. Personal Profiling:/strong/p pandnbsp;/p pSnapchat has grown faster than any other social network (Snapchat has an estimated 200 million monthly active users and 100 million daily active users, which puts it ahead of all of its other competitors after four years. Instagram is close with 180 million monthly active users in 2014. This seems to indicate faster growth overall for visual social networks). Every day, around 100 million users share and consume content through Snapchat. While this should scream of opportunity to marketers, Snapchat canandrsquo;t use it in a way that is useful to advertisers, thanks to its interface. Thereandrsquo;s no permanent profile on the app where one can see old posts and gauge a profile, the brand or their personae. Whereas Instagramandrsquo;s format of picture archival helps users come back and revisit moments they may have missed.andnbsp;/p pandnbsp;/p p style="text-align: center;"/p pandnbsp;/p pandnbsp;/p pandnbsp;/p p(emImage source: a rel="nofollow" href="https://www.instagram.com/instagram/" target="_blank"Instagram/a)/em/p pandnbsp;/p pstrong3. Star Power:andnbsp;/strong/p pandnbsp;/p pKylie Jenner, the 19-year-old reality star and youngest of the Kardashian sisters, has not only built a large follower base on Insta but has also created an unprecedented business empire using her social media status. Her Instagram handle, @Kyliejenner, has 80.8 million followers. Each Instagram story that she posts has the potential to reach almost the entire user base on Snapchat. Thatandrsquo;s muscle. Iandrsquo;m talking Super Bowl commercial muscle, and sheandrsquo;s just one Instagram celeb. There are so many more celebrities we could fill pages talking about. andnbsp;/p pandnbsp;/p p style="text-align: center;"/p pandnbsp;/p pandnbsp;/p p(emImage source: a rel="nofollow" href="https://www.instagram.com/kyliejenner/" target="_blank"Instagram/a)/em/p pandnbsp;/p pstrong4. App of the Moment:andnbsp;/strong/p pandnbsp;/p pEvery time someone asks me the major difference between Instagram and Snapchat, I tell them how Instagram is about creating and archiving great images and stories; while Snapchat is about sharing special moments from oneandrsquo;s life. Now that there is an update with Insta stories and Insta image text, one often needs to pick between the two when that special moment strikes. It doesnandrsquo;t seem feasible to post on both because by the time one shares it on the next app the moment is over. Also, one will always settle with the app where they get more views. andnbsp; And once Instagram releases its first face recognition and animated filter, itandrsquo;s going to be checkmate.andnbsp;/p pandnbsp;/p p style="text-align: center;"/p pem(Image source: a rel="nofollow" href="http://mediastorage-lls.bauermedia.co.uk/1a/c2c34/5ffc9/ba059/41566/7cce9/aea46/2-snapchat-filters-the-debrief-1_889x500.jpg?1460628585" target="_blank"Google/a)/em/p pandnbsp;/p pstrong5. The Facebook Factor:/strong/p pandnbsp;/p pFacebook has evolved to become a digital advertising powerhouse. Ever since Instagram gained muscle, millennials were seen migrating. For a social brand like Facebook, the idea of andlsquo;coolandrsquo; is not something that could be compromised. They simply acquired Instagram. In Mark Zuckerberg's setting, Instagram is no longer an artsy photographerandrsquo;s playing field. It is a business device. It is here to define social media culture, as we know it. And a few cute dog filters canandrsquo;t really compete./p pandnbsp;/p p style="text-align: center;"/p p style="text-align: left;"andnbsp;/p p style="text-align: left;"strongMore On andgt;andgt; a rel="nofollow" href="http://www.luxpresso.com/lifestyle" target="_blank"Lifestyle/a/strong/p
