Fauchon aims to open its second hotel in Japan

France’s upscale gourmet retailer Fauchon plans to bring its new hotel brand to Japan, the fine food purveyor’s biggest market, just a year or so after the company opens the first ever hotel in Paris.

Fauchon seeks partners to open a hotel in Japan in 2019, ahead of the 2020 Summer Olympics in Japan’s capital. Likely sites include Ginza, Shinjuku and Shibuya.

Fauchon’s Paris hotel is to debut in 2018 in Place de la Madeleine, where the business began as a fruit-and-vegetable cart. It will have 54 guest rooms and feature fine dining. The average room rate will likely be around 500 euros ($537).
The Japanese location, too, is expected to offer gourmet food and other high-end amenities while charging similar room rates. Fauchon envisions the hotel as a franchise or joint venture, among other options.

The company looks to have at least two other hotels in Japan by 2030, targeting such cities as Osaka and Kyoto. The country accounts for around 40% of annual sales for Fauchon, which rang up 180 million euros in the year to March.

The company aims to have the hotel chain span 20 locations worldwide and generate 200 million euros in annual sales in 2030.
