The Ritz-Carlton Vienna, one of the finest in the city (REVIEW)

On my return to the The Ritz-Carlton Vienna, three years since my first stay, I was most impressed with the very high standard of service throughout all departments, under the expert supervision of talented hotelier Jean-Paul Dantil. Without any exception, all departments of the hotel provide the highest standard of personalized service, warm, intuitive and efficient.

One of the service standard tests was, for me, the main breakfast venue at Melounge, on a day the hotel was running at a high occupancy rate. Staff were very composed, efficient and friendly, effortlessly engaging with all guests.

Located right on the Ringstrasse, the iconic street that circles the inner city, The Ritz Carlton Vienna is within walking distance to most attractions. The Ringstrasse was built to replace the old city walls and it is home some of the most important public buildings and opulent private homes.

The majestic palace building of The Ritz-Carlton Vienna is actually made up of four separate smaller palaces from the 19th century that were converted into one hotel. The hotel blends contemporary elegant design with classic, heritage influences. The hotel has maintained as much as it was possible from the heritage buildings. The most impressive is the the grand central historic staircase with its array of marbles and a stunning ceiling fresco. Then, there is an exquisite wooden artwork above a fireplace in the small lobby in from of the Presidential Suite. The same type of heritage wooden ceilings with frescoes adorn the Presidential Suite of the hotel, one of the finest such top suites in the city.

The Atmosphere Rooftop Bar & Lounge is certainly a hotspot in the city, a unique destination venue for all seasons. During the warmer months, the rooftop is used as a venue for yoga during the day and as a bar in the afternoon / evenings. In the festive season the rooftop transforms into a unique Christmas Fair. The panoramic views of the city will leave you breathless.

The Club Lounge invites for a residential feel, resembling a large and cozy living room. During my stay, the service extended by the Club Lounge was flawless, the very friendly and efficient staff attending to the most discerning needs of all Club guests. I enjoyed mostly the afternoons at the Lounge, an ideal place to work or unwind.

The Concierge is yet another major asset of the hotel. The highly knowledgeable team will provide you with the extensive offering of tips to enjoy Vienna. One of the unique features offered  is the ‘concierge run’ where one of the hotel’s concierges will go out with you for a run around central Vienna in the morning. It’s part exercise and part tour – the whole point is that they show you some of the sights and point out restaurants, that you can try out later in the day.

The centerpiece of the Spa is a 18 meter heated indoor pool with underwater music. The Spa features 6 treatment rooms, with an Asian themed interior design geared towards ultimate piece of mind and relaxation. I was pampered to a tailored massage, a mix of deep-tissue and Asian. The Spa features ESPA and the organic range of Austrian based Susanne Kaufmann.

There is a generous range of accommodations, most of them featuring original interior design. The ratio of suites versus rooms is deal, with a wide selection of styles and layouts. I enjoyed a Executive Suite with a panoramic terrace overlooking the city skyline. The predominance of wood and the warm texture of the upholstery and carpets make up for a warm atmosphere. Beds are exceptionally comfortable, with a high-thread silk cotton bedding. The dark marble bathrooms feature underfloor heating (a rare feature) and separate shower and bathtub.

Make sure you do not miss a steak at the Dstrikt Restaurant of the hotel. The selection of steaks is impressive and service is, once again, at its highest. There is also a selection of exceptional Austrian wines. A intricate cocktail at DBar is the perfect ending to a long day.
