Mugler opens new flagship store in Paris

MUGLER has recently opened its first flagship in Paris at 67, rue du Faubourg Saint Honoré. The store which covers 1,400 sqft was designed by renowned architects Jean Christophe Poggioli and Pierre Beucler of Architecture Associés,

“I can’t really explain how happy I am,” offered creative director David Koma, who, for the past three years, has worked to bring founding designer Thierry Mugler’s couture ’80s dream into the realm of modern ready-to-wear. “We were looking for the right spot, and when this space came along, we knew it was meant to be.”

Koma felt launching a brick-and-mortar retail space first was essential to further communicate the new Mugler vision. “Over the past couple of years, it was most important for us to get our message across and build a strong team,” Koma said. “No matter how modernized or digitalized things get, the old-school love of luxury, and the joy of being able to go into a store and touch the clothes, is never going away,” he continued. “Maybe there will be [fewer] stores, but they’re no less important. It’s almost like having your own apartment. You need something physical in life.”

To be sure, the new boutique is a milestone for Mugler, but Koma insists that it is but one step in a bigger plan to expand the Mugler universe. “I would like to make the brand more global, and open stores around the world,” Koma said, adding that he has his sights set on London, Milan, and New York. Further developing the accessories range is also on his to-do list, as is introducing shoes and menswear.
