France’s Kering Group is transferring Nikolas Talonpoika from within the conglomerate’s corporate structure to the helm of fashion label Christopher Kane.

Mr. Talonpoika was previously Kering’s strategic marketing and media director, and as of Oct. 12 he will serve as Christopher Kane’s CEO. In his new role at Christopher Kane, it is Kering’s hope that Mr. Talonpoika will accelerate the brand’s growth internationally.

Moving around

Mr. Talonpoika began his career in his native London where he worked as an international client director at advertising firms such as WPP and Publicis, with accounts including Richemont Group, L’Oreal and Nespresso.

Thereafter, Mr. Talonpoika joined Gucci Group in 2008 as media director. In 2012, Mr. Talonpoika was appointed Kering Group’s strategic marketing and media director.

As the CEO of Christopher Kane, Mr. Talonpoika will report directly to Kering’s managing director, Jean-Francois Palus. In his new role he will also work alongside Scottish designer Christopher Kane and his sister Tammy Kane as they seek to strengthen the brand’s identity.

Kering purchased a 51 percent stake in Christopher Kane in 2013, and has since then worked to develop the brand into an international entity as it celebrates its tenth anniversary.

Mr. Talonpoika will takeover Christopher Kane from Sarah Crook, who is stepping down from the CEO post after two years.

In a statement, Kering said it is grateful to Ms. Crook for her achievements while at Christopher Kane. While she was CEO, Christopher Kane opened its first flagship in London, expanded into new markets, upped visibility in Europe and Asia, launched ecommerce and established new product categories.

There have been a number of high-profile moves within the Kering umbrella.

For instance, Kering is recognizing the increasing demands of today’s luxury customer with a newly created chief client & marketing officer position.

Taking on this newly added role will be Carlo Alberto Beretta, who has been CEO of the Kering-owned fashion label Bottega Veneta since 2015. Kering announced Mr. Beretta’s departure on Sept. 29, naming former Hugo Boss CEO Claus-Dietrich Lahrs as his successor (see story).
