Up Close and Personal With Lisa Haydon

p/p pActress, model, television host and judge, Lisa Haydon has donned numerous hats, leaving no stone unturned to fulfill her dreams. In a freewheeling chat, she opens up about her life, career and passions, while revealing a rather down-to earth and unseen side of hers./p pandnbsp;/p pstrongTELL US ABOUT YOUR ASSOCIATION WITH SWISS WATCH BRAND CARL F. BUCHERER./strong/p pIt is a brand that I have admired for many years, mainly because of its heritage and how itandrsquo;s so true to its culture. Itandrsquo;s a Swiss watch brand and what attracts me to it is how beautifully every piece is crafted and made. Iandrsquo;ve actually been to the factory and watched them handcraft every watch. Each piece is so special and unique to itselfandmdash;I think thatandrsquo;s the USP of having handmade timepieces. It was Atul [Kasbekar], who introduced me to Carl F. Buchererandrsquo;s CEO Sascha [Moeri]. They brought me to Baselworld one year; it was when I also got to visit the factory. The association started very organically. It began with an invite to visit their booth and see the fair and experience everything. They entertained us well for three days all over Basel city and at the end, I wondered, andldquo; Can I endorse this brand?andrdquo; (Laughs)/p pandnbsp;/p pstrongWHICH IS YOUR FAVOURITE WATCH?/strong/p pMy favourite timepiece is the Alacria Divaandmdash;itandrsquo;s a big gold one. Itandrsquo;s got a big gold face with diamonds around it and a rare shade of python skin strapandmdash;itandrsquo;s really special./p pandnbsp;/p pstrongON ACHIEVING HER DREAMS/strong/p pThe funny thing about achievement is that itandrsquo;s never enough, because you always want to grow more and do more. When it comes to modelling, I feel like thereandrsquo;s so much to learn, and I feel so honoured to grow and to be associated with such amazing brands and companies. That is something I probably didnandrsquo;t have the privilege of doing five or six years ago. As far as acting goes, itandrsquo;s the sameandmdash;this is only the beginning and thereandrsquo;s so much more to be done. While I appreciate the praises and constructive criticism Iandrsquo;ve received, there are so many roles I havenandrsquo;t yet bagged./p pandnbsp;/p pstrongDESCRIBE YOUR DREAM ROLE./strong/p pWhile I was doing Housefull 3, I discovered a genuine love of comedy and I think I only really realised that when I was [playing] my role in Ae Dil Hai Mushkil. I realised that this is a genre that I enjoy potraying. Itandrsquo;s fun to do these roles, but I would [also] love to do roles like those in Closer or Danny Boyleandrsquo;s The Beach. These are very character-driven roles that motivate people to do things. I would like to do more of these roles because I find the human mind rather interesting./p pandnbsp;/p pstrongWHICH MEDIUM DO YOU FIND MOST CHALLENGING OR ENJOYABLE?/strong/p pIndiaandrsquo;s Next Top Model is really challenging because of the hours. Television is quite gruelling; also, I feel acting is much more internal, whereas hosting is like being [in] a box and Iandrsquo;m not like that by nature. Thatandrsquo;s a role that I have to step into and Iandrsquo;m not entirely comfortable doing it. Also, with the contestants, I have to be a mentor and offer criticism, yet do it in a way thatandrsquo;s constructive, so that they are able to receive it and grow from it. I know that nothing good comes from pressure; people need encouragement. Thereandrsquo;s a very fine balance to strike between the two./p pandnbsp;/p pstrongAPART FROM WORK, WHAT ARE THE THINGS YOU ENJOY DOING?/strong/p pI love to just stay at home and cook. I love to shop for groceries. I like to go out and buy my own groceries; usually when youandrsquo;re so busy, you have someone to do it for you. I like doing laundry and cleaning out my closet. I also like to bake and Iandrsquo;m a good baker. On a more glamorous note, I like to travel. This year, Iandrsquo;m planning a trip to the Amalfi Coast (Italy) with my boyfriend./p pandnbsp;/p pandnbsp;/p p style="text-align: center;"/p pandnbsp;/p pstrongWHATandrsquo;S YOUR FAVOURITE andnbsp;DESTINATION?/strong/p pA beach where the water is kind of warm and where there are good restaurants serving good food, where you can be a little bit glamorous, yet bohemian. I love Ibiza (Spain), and Iandrsquo;m not saying that because of the clubs, but because the water is warm (laughs). I love Sydney (Australia); my parents moved back to Sydney last October after living in India for 35 years. Tel Aviv (Israel) and Mexico are really nice too./p pandnbsp;/p pstrongDEFINE YOUR PERSONAL SENSE OF STYLE./strong/p pIandrsquo;m not one to sport big accessories; I prefer to go for something more delicate and simple unless itandrsquo;s a [Carl F. Bucherer] Patravi. Otherwise, I like to wear stuff thatandrsquo;s comfortable. Even if Iandrsquo;m wearing something formal, Iandrsquo;ll try and wear it in a way that it doesnandrsquo;t look overdressed or OTT. If Iandrsquo;m sporting black pants and a turtleneck, Iandrsquo;ll pair it with flat shoes instead of heels. My fear is looking as though I tried too hard, so Iandrsquo;ll always take one thing off. I like to carry beautiful handbags. I just got a new Givenchyandmdash;a Givenchy Pandoraandmdash;for my birthday. You can wear the strap short, but I wear it long for an easy, relaxed look./p pandnbsp;/p pstrongWHATandrsquo;S ON YOUR WISH LIST?/strong/p pI buy two handbags a year. I try not to indulge in more than that. I try to get one day bag and one eveningwear bag to try and balance it out. I do love buying clothes. These days since I am travelling a lot, I am stacking up on jackets. Thereandrsquo;s a whole other side of fashionandmdash;jackets, trenches and coatsandmdash;that I have never explored from growing up and living in India./p pandnbsp;/p pstrongWHATandrsquo;S THE ONE LUXURY andnbsp;ITEM YOU CANandrsquo;T LIVE WITHOUT?/strong/p pMy iPhone. Also, Iandrsquo;ve got these new headphones that are completely amazing. They have wireless earbuds, so they connect via Bluetooth. Whatandrsquo;s more, they are waterproof, so you can swim with them and keep the music on in the shower/p pandnbsp;/p pstrongAT A GLANCE/strong/p pstrongOne thing no one knows about me:/strong That I like to clean and do my own laundry (laughs). That I especially like to hand wash [clothes] and find it therapeutic. I play the guitar and Iandrsquo;m a good rollerblader. Sometimes, I talk in my sleep!/p pandnbsp;/p pstrongMost luxurious indulgence:/strong For me, luxury is how much I can get out of it as well. My car is something so valuable that I canandrsquo;t imagine life without it.andnbsp;/p pandnbsp;/p pstrongCelebration means:/strong I love going out for dinners, thatandrsquo;s my favourite thing to doandmdash;to go for a nice dinner andshare a nice bottle of wine. I like to enjoy with my family./p pandnbsp;/p pstrongWhat next:/strong Weandrsquo;re shooting for Indiaandrsquo;s Next Top Model. Then there are other interesting projects that I canandrsquo;t talk about as they are at a nascent stage right now./p pandnbsp;/p pem(Disclaimer: This is an edited excerpt from the interview.)/em/p pembr //em/p pstrongMore On andgt;andgt; a href="http://www.luxpresso.com/lifestyle/celebs" target="_blank"Celebs/a/strong/p pspan /span/p
