Muggles Wanted: Harry Potter’s Childhood Home Seeks New Owners

What makes a simple real estate listing on an English cul-de-sac go viral? A role in a beloved movie might do the trick. That’s what happened when Chancellors, a U.K. firm, listed a home better known as 4 Privet Lane, Harry Potter’s childhood home.

unknown

Bloggers around the globe seized on the listing, reviewing every detail. While the home in the listing may not look too much like the Surrey home of the Dursley family now, this home, actually located at 12 Picket Post Close in Martins Heron, Bracknell is indeed the home used in the 2001 film. It is listed for  £475,000 (just under $620,000).

The three-bedroom house was used to film scenes from ‘Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone’ over a two-week period. Far more cheerful than it was depicted in the film, the home has been redone with a refitted kitchen and breakfast room, new driveway, landscaped rear yard and upgraded house alarm system (useful for keeping over-zealous fans at bay).

unknown-2The listing notes that due to high demand, the firm has arranged a launch day on September 24th from 3.30-5.00pm and viewings strictly by appointment only. The Telegraph reports it last sold in 2010 for £290,000.
