Art Attack: Meet the Worldand#039;s Most Expensive Paintings

p/p pandnbsp;/p p2015 was a milestone year in the world of art with a number of record-breaking paintings being sold. Year 2016 seems to be following in the footsteps of the year that was; a recent example being the record-breaking sale of Akbar Padamsee's Greek Landscape. It was recently auctioned for a staggering INR 19.19 crores. On that note, here's a look at some record-breaking artworks./p pandnbsp;/p pAt the recent Saffronart Evening Sale of Modern Indian art, Padamsee's monochrome canvas trumped its contemporaries, fetching more double the estimated INR 7 to 9 crores. The veteran artist, who started his journey with a solo exhibition in 1952 in Paris earned his previous world record in 2011 for the Reclining Nude, a 1960 painting that had fetched $1.4 million (approx. This masterpiece created a new record for any cubist work, fetching the highest price for any painting sold in London since 2010. It sold for a staggering $63.4 million (approx. INR 424 crores). Inspired by his lover Fernande Olivier, this piece was considered a pioneering work of the Cubist movement./p p style="text-align: center;"/p pandnbsp;/p pandnbsp;/p pstrongGaitonde's Untitled, 1995/strongbr /The highest value of an Indian artist's work was estimated at $4.01million (approx. INR 26 crores). But Vasudeo S Gaitonde's Untitled from 1995 turned the estimate on its head. Going at INR 29 crores, it earned a world record as the most expensive Indian artwork sold at an auction. One of India's greatest abstract painters, Gaitonde created this masterpiece in his intimate terrace studio in Delhi./p pandnbsp;/p p style="text-align: center;"/p pandnbsp;/p pstrongBasquiat's Untitled, 1980s/strongbr /Part of the 1970s street art movement, Jean-Michel Basquiat popularised a thought provoking neo-expressionist art form that became a favourite among investors. His untitled painting from the early 80s, when the world was moving towards minimalism, was an expression of his thought process at the time. It is said that he poured his heart and soul into this artwork, which unfortunately turned out to be one of his last works. Painted on a trip to Italy, this Basquiat masterpiece was priced at $57.3 million (approx.
