Are Coloured Gemstones Replacing Diamond Engagement Rings?

p/p pLast week, luxury jeweller Faberge unveiled a collection of engagement rings studded with colourful gemstones. The collection was accompanied by a short film, prompting brides to say andlsquo;yesandrsquo; in colour. The digital campaign comes with its own hashtag #sayyesincolour, as well as a short film that encourages women to look beyond diamonds while choosing engagement rings./p pandnbsp;/p pHowever, andldquo;Diamonds are always the first choice, andrdquo; asserts Aditya Pethe, Director, WHP Jewellers. He continues, andldquo; When it comes to an engagement ring, the stone has been romanticised over years, and brings with it the promise of forever, just like your love for your better half.andrdquo;/p pandnbsp;/p pAlthough women still nurture a love for diamonds, the subtle shift in preferences is for all to witness. Nodding in agreement, Rishabh Tongya, Creative Director, Diacolor, says, andldquo;Diamonds are forever, but natural coloured diamonds are the stuff of legend. One of the popular choices for an engagement ring has been with a yellow diamond as the centre stone. They have become a rage as one of the most coveted stones.andrdquo; Even Jennifer Lopezandrsquo;s stunning pink diamond and Kate Middletonandrsquo;s striking sapphire engagement ring validate the rapidly building popularity of coloured stones amongst influencers. According to Pethe, the fact that andldquo;Modern couples are more receptive towards international trends they donandrsquo;t mind opting for a coloured gemstone in an engagement ring.andrdquo;/p pandnbsp;/p pHowever, it must be taken into consideration that coloured gemstones hold astrological significance for many in India. This in turn can lead to a degree of scepticism in people while opting for engagement rings studded with these precious stones. As a result, it certainly may take a while before coloured gemstones flood the Indian market as a replacement to diamonds. andnbsp;/p pandnbsp;/p pIshu Datwani, Founder of Anmol Jewellers, adds a valid perspective when he associates engagement rings with emotions. He says, andldquo; They have a sentimental value attached to them as they are symbols of love and commitment. A coloured gemstone can also add extra meaning to oneandrsquo;s engagement ring.andrdquo; Datwani also thinks that price and appearance are additional factors that encourage buyers to choose these precious stones. Echoing Datwaniandrsquo;s sentiments, Tongya highlights the fact that over a period of time, as their rarity value escalates, coloured stones are usually in for staggering asset appreciation value of about 200 per cent, proving that while diamonds may be forever, a coloured stone will become more precious over time./p pandnbsp;/p pstrongMore On andgt;andgt; a rel="nofollow" href="http://www.luxpresso.com/jewellery" target="_blank"Jewellery/a/strong/p
