Trend Alert: Grooming Up with Designer Kunal Rawal

p/p pandnbsp;/p pFor far too long boys have played it safe with their wedding wardrobes. Not that we want them to turn into 'groomzillas', but the men of the day do have certain responsibilities towards his wardrobe for the D-day. Listing down fashion must-haves, menswear designer Kunal Rawal celebrates the husband-to-be with his unique idea of the new-age groom.andnbsp;/p pandnbsp;/p pstrongThe Ideal Groom:/strong/p pstrongbr //strong/p pShowcasing a mix of bold and neutrals colour tones, at the recently concluded Lakem Fashion Week, Kunal presented a stunning lineup of menswear for the discerning. Calling his collection the andlsquo;Role Playandrsquo;, the designer demonstrated a new side to the groom, which channelled a more subdued yet chic avatar. andldquo;Grooms who normally come to me are more sorted with their look. They avoid the embellished brooches and accessories, even the silhouettes remain slightly fitting and are shorter with layers. The wedding day captures moments and holds that one picture, which will stay with you for posterity; hence it demands attention. Further explaining his idea of the ideal groom, he added, andldquo;I believe in comfort and wearability, hence tighter fits, shorter lengths in emkurtas/em and emsherwanis/em is perfect. Considering the Indian wedding saga features a lot of opportunities for the groom to experiment, the main day must infuse neutral colour tones like vanilla, champagne, crandegrave;me complemented with a wine emsafa/em.andrdquo;/p pandnbsp;/p pstrongEmbroidery andamp; Motifs:/strong/p pandnbsp;/p pandnbsp;/p p style="text-align: center;"/p pandnbsp;/p pandnbsp;/p pIndian sartorial wear uses a lot of motifs; however, as said by Kunal, they can get overwhelming for men, which is andnbsp;why most grooms play it safe with subtle sequin work on their ensembles. andldquo;Itandrsquo;s great to have curves in your motifs, but too much of it can push it towards femininity. Hence, these days the motifs on Indian wear for men, display an assortment of tone-on-tone patterns with texture. In case of botany being part of the ensembles, the motifs are slightly masculine and avoid intricate floral designs.andrdquo; andnbsp;Kunalandlsquo;s collection for Lakmandeacute; displayed a distinct version of the marigold flower, grass embroidery and the frontal view of the leaf, complementing his take on the embroideries for the upcoming season.andnbsp;/p pandnbsp;/p pstrongThe Tale of Silhouettes:/strong/p pandnbsp;/p pAs mentioned earlier, Kunal believes in keeping cuts and lengths shorter, as it advocates better functionality and comfort. Considering the new-age groom endorses fitter and leaner bodies, the silhouettes, as per Kunal, are best when tailored to complement their figures. andldquo;Grooms who come to me are already gym-toned; hence the silhouettes for their emkurtas/em and emsherwanis/em also demonstrates such versatility.andrdquo; While waistlines are clinched, the sleeves are tailor-fitted to ensure room space when the arms are flexed. andnbsp;/p pAnother unique style noticed in Kunalandrsquo;s current collection is the breech bottoms, which is a combination of emjodhpuris/em and cigarette pants. andldquo;I have paired breech style bottoms with my emkurtas/em and emsherwanis/em, as the drop crotch maintains comfort while the narrowed-down legs complement the wearerandrsquo;s toned body.andrdquo;/p pandnbsp;/p pstrongThe Western Influence:/strong/p pandnbsp;/p pBe it the short-length embandhgala/em jackets or the wool-infused coats, international brands have played a vital role in shaping Indian wear for men. Considering the millennial are well-travelled and informed, they prefer to draw inspiration from brands like Canali, Paul Smith, Ferragamo for their wedding wardrobes. andldquo; The emkurta/em, from five years back has evolved over a period of time. While emsherwanis/em and emkurtas/em feature higher slits with jackets, the ensembles, even though traditional, demonstrate modern tweaks which make it wearable and trendy.andrdquo;/p pandnbsp;/p pstrongChoosing the Colour Palette:/strong/p pstrongbr //strong/p pandnbsp;/p p style="text-align: center;"/p pandnbsp;/p pandnbsp;/p pAlthough the designer personally loves the concept of pairing a wine with muted tones of champagne, he did suggest how one must consider incorporating black into their wardrobe. andldquo;Black does work for weddings. Though our traditions define it as inauspicious, I personally feel the colour has a stunning personality and works well for Indian outfits too, just as it does for a tuxedo.andrdquo; We couldnandrsquo;t agree more with Kunal as a black embandhgala/em with a coloured trouser or a black emkurta/em and emsherwani/em with an embroidered emsafa/em will add volume to a look, making a groom stand out on his D-day.andnbsp;/p pKunalandrsquo;s collection atandnbsp;Lakmandeacute;andnbsp;Fashion Week was a stunning mix of embroidered jackets, fresh colour palettes, dual tone emsafas/em and comfortable silhouettes; now that's what we call the ideal wardrobe for the groom-to-be.andnbsp;/p pandnbsp;/p pstrongMore On andgt;andgt; a href="http://www.luxpresso.com/style/fashion" target="_blank"Fashion/a/strong/p
