Charting Longchamp's Journey from Pipes to Fashion with Jean Cassegrain

p/p pandnbsp;/p pFounded in the French Capital in 1948 by Jean Cassegrain, Longchamp began with handcrafting of unsown leather covers for smoking pipes. andnbsp; What began then has seen the French fashion label today own a stunning range of leather accessories, both for men and women, apart from a prandecirc;t fashion line. On a quest to expand across the globe, Longchamp recently made a grand arrival in India with a boutique at DLF Emporio in New Delhi. The momentous arrival was celebrated at the brand new boutique andnbsp;with the whoandrsquo;s who in town, all in the presence of Longchampandrsquo;s andnbsp;current CEO and grandson of Jean Cassegrain who has not only inherited his grandfatherandrsquo;s ideologies but also his name./p pandnbsp;/p pstrongCreating Brand Longchamp/strong/p pstrongbr //strong/p pA graduate from the prestigious school of Ecole Supandeacute;rieure de Commerce in Paris, Jean, began his career at the French Trade Commission in New York, where he assisted French companies to establish a foothold in the United States. After a successful management stint spanning two-and-a-half years, Jean made his way to Longchamp under his fatherandrsquo;s guidance; the President of the company who, till date, plays an active role in the betterment of the brand. His visits to the factory time-and-again as a kid built Jeanandrsquo;s will and intentions to lead Longchamp as a top player in the luxury goods sector across the globe. andldquo; The story of the brand began with leather as a key element, where we started off with covers for smoking pipes, followed by cigar cases, menandrsquo;s accessories like wallets, bags, and luggage carriers. Once my father joined the company, he brought in his own ideas and started designing bags for women. After almost mapping our journey with leather made goods, I thought leather bags are no longer a separate entity but are a part of the fashion sector, and hence, decided to launch our ready-to-wear collection, andrdquo; said Jean Cassegrain , as he walked us around the boutique, showing us looks from Longchampandrsquo;s fall andrsquo;16 collection./p pandnbsp;/p p style="text-align: center;"/p p style="text-align: center;"emThe Longchamp boutique in DLF Emporio, New Delhi/em/p pandnbsp;/p pstrongJean Cassegrain at the Wheels of a Family-Run Business/strong/p pstrongbr //strong/p pWhile for many handling such responsibilities can be pressurising, Jean Cassegrain sees it as a reward and derives pleasure out of spearheading the family-run business. andnbsp; He, along with his four brothers and sisters, ensures the smooth function of the business and focuses on further enhancing Longchampandrsquo;s position not only in France (where the company is already number one) but in strategic countries and emerging markets as well. In fact, Jean Cassegrain prefers a family-run business as it is a lot more established. He says, andldquo; Our investors, partners, and business associates feel safe as the business is stable and we can foresee forthcoming issues and can map the success rate of Longchamp. Alongside this, we are not really worried about the ups and downs of the stock market, and hence donandrsquo;t really have to release our quarterly financial figures.andrdquo; Jean was bestowed upon the emNational Order of the Legion of Honour/em for his express contribution to furthering French creativity and innovation across the globe./p pandnbsp;/p pstrongFrom Paris to India/strong/p pstrongbr //strong/p pCarrying forward the learning, trials, and errors earned at Longchamp under the guidance of his grandfather and father, who are also his inspirations, Jean made the inevitable decision to bring the brand to India, a flourishing market for luxury and fashion. andldquo;I think we are a bit late to enter the Indian market as there is a good amount of disposable income in India, especially cities like Mumbai and Delhi. A French brand venturing in India is definitely important.andrdquo;/p pandnbsp;/p pThe brandandrsquo;s move to India certainly indicates towards the changes the brand may bring about in the fashion business here. When asked about how he intends to alter the fashion landscape here, Jean elaborated, andldquo; As of now, we intend on bringing our own point of view and plan on giving clients a taste of French creativity. Considering we are more product-oriented, we are proud to be a brand which manufactures its own products. Through Longchamp, we give India authenticity, uniqueness, quality of leather and a solely Parisian product which is something Indian women will love. In short, we intend on bringing Paris to India with Longchamp.andrdquo;/p pandnbsp;/p pIn fact, Jean Cassegrain also told us how he soon intends on opening a Longchamp boutique in Mumbai, post the Delhi launch. So people, hold your breath, as the city of dreams is not far from welcoming its very own Longchamp store.andnbsp;/p pandnbsp;/p pstrongMore On andgt;andgt; a href="http://www.luxpresso.com/style/fashion"Fashion/a/strong/p
