The Leela Group has signed a management agreement to open a 100-room Leela Palace hotel close to Agra’s Taj Mahal. The deal sees Qatar’s Al Sawari Holding purchase a six acre plot from the Leela Group.
A second 150-room hotel will also be built on the site, under the Aiana Hotels and Resorts branding. The agreement was signed following Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent visit to Doha.
The twin hotel complex will be located less than a kilometre away from the Taj Mahal, and will offer “unparalleled views of the historic monument”.
The development will feature “a host of signature restaurants and lounges along with spacious banquet halls and state of the art health centres and spas”, and is expected to be completed within the next three years.
