Exports of Italian menswear in decline in 2015

Italian men’s fashion reports a decrease of both import ( -2.5 % ) and exports ( -3.5 % ) in the first quarter of 2016, as indicated by a report of the Italian Fashion System ( ISTAT data ) prepared on the occasion of the Pitti Uomo .

Turnover abroad is reduced for most of the product categories : -3.5 % for the packaging , -11.5 % for shirting , -9.7 % for ties . By contrast, knitwear , with a + 1.7 % .

Exports to Europe recorded a 1.8 % decrease , but remain positive in Germany ( + 2.1% ) and Spain ( + 3.9 % ) , while France is in decline ( -5 % ) and so is the UK ( -7.4 % ) .

Exports to non-EU countries stand out with a decrease of -9.5 % in the US and -4.5% in Switzerland . Exports to Hong Kong were stable  with an increase of + 0.1 % )  and similarly exports to Japan ( -0.1 % ). Exports to Greater China increase by 3.2% . The decline of exports to Russia is dramatic ( -20 % ).

For men’s fashion made in Italy 2015 ended with approximately 8.9 billion euros in revenues , up 1.4% compared to 2014. It was precisely foreign to boost the turnover of business sector , thanks a + 2.3 % in exports , at an altitude of 5.7 billion euro.

Despite the parallel increase in imports ( + 7.8 % ) , the trade balance remained active for 1.6 billion ( 1.8 billion in 2014) . Purchases by the Italians, last year, registered a decrease of 3.4%
