Wine wonderland, La Cité du Vin, opens in Bordeaux

La Cité du Vin, in English, City of Wine  boasts 20 themed areas and exhibits, a 250-seat auditorium for screenings and classes, expert-led tasting sessions, and a boat ride that shows what it was like to be a sea merchant sailing across the globe, selling wine.

The theme park also says its mission is to promote and share the cultural, universal and living heritage of wine with the largest audience possible.

The building itself is also visually stunning. It was created by architects Anouk Legendre and Nicolas Desmazières and was designed to be a “space shaped by symbols of identity: gnarled vine stock, wine swirling in a glass…” according to the attraction’s website. “Every detail of the architecture evokes wine’s soul and liquid nature.”

La Cité du Vin will open in the Bordeaux wine region on June 1 with entry tickets priced at $22.
