Interparfums first quarter revenue rises by 8.5%

French group Interparfums, specialised in the creation and distribution of fragrances under licence, indicated on Friday that its first quarter revenue rose by 8.5% year-on-year, notably driven by a jump in the Montblanc brand’s sales.

According to a press release, from January to March the group has generated a revenue of €83.7 million.

Sales for Montblanc perfumes, at €31.8 million, represented more than a third of the company’s total, and posted a 32% growth. According to the group, this performance hinged on “the promising launch of the Montblanc Legend Spirit line, which is expected to become another of the brand’s mainstays.”

Jimmy Choo fragrances (+1%, €19.5 million) “have consolidated their position thanks to the ongoing placement of Jimmy Choo Illicit, the third feminine line launched in autumn 2015.”

On the other hand, Lanvin fragrances have been “penalised by the sluggish economic situation in (their) two main markets, Russia and China,” and experienced something of a decline: their sales fell by 24%, down to €11.1 million. The group is relying on the launch of a new feminine line in the autumn to re-energise the brand.

In geographical terms, sales grew by 36% in western Europe, notably thanks to the incorporation of the Rochas fragrances, and by 14% in North America.

“Bearing in mind their troubled economic and geopolitical situations, eastern Europe, South America and the Middle East experienced a major downturn,” stated Interparfums.

The group also confirmed the revenue forecast of €340 million for the whole year.
