Four Seasons Maui at Wailea, HI is offer consumers the chance to boost their photography skills by hosting a Photocrowd challenge.
The prompt for the competition is wanderlust, and the winning entrant will be able to fulfill her desire to travel with a scholarship to the Maui Photo Expedition, complete with five complimentary nights at the Four Seasons property. Four Seasons is expecting hundreds of submissions for the contest, as photographers vie for their spot at the workshop.
Photo call
To enter, consumers need to register for a Photocrowd account. The instructions tell entrants to share an inspirational photo that captures the excitement of the earth.
Entries will be accepted through April 15.
Hosting the competition on Photocrowd rather than through social media allows Four Seasons to target more serious shutterbugs. Any photo posted to the site can be made available for sale, with members getting a commission on any print sold.
Consumers can judge the entries as they come in, and the winner of the crowd’s vote will receive a Tenba Cooper 8 bag. The rest of the prizes, including the grand prize and runner-up gifts, will be based on expert judges.
The grand prize winner will get to attend the five-day workshop led by Robert Caplin and Peter Lockley.
Days will be spent on location shooting, watching instructor demonstrations, taking part in group editing and critique sessions and networking with those in the industry. The workshop’s partner Canon will be bringing $200,000 of equipment, giving participants the tools they need to capture stunning photos while in the tropical locale’s bamboo forests or on black sand beaches (see story).

“Participants will come away with a better understanding of light, composition, exposure, production, editing and printing,” said Mr. Lockley in a statement.
During the expedition, scheduled for June 14-19, Four Seasons Maui will be the central location, serving as the lodgings for participants, offering a place to take in meals or relax.
“Between the two of us, we’ve taught and attended countless workshops,” Mr. Caplin said. “The beauty of the Maui Photo Expedition is that it is not only a premier photography program in the most idyllic of settings – it is elevated by all the amenities of one of the world’s most legendary luxury resorts.”
Those who do not want to leave their participation in the workshop up to chance can purchase the package for $6,990. This includes accommodations for one. Additional guests can join for $3,000 each.
