Food Review: An Evening of Molecular Mixology at MasalaBar

p/p pandnbsp;/p pWhile molecular gastronomy is a concept that is trending across many fine-dining spaces; renowned restaurateurstrong Zorawar Kalra/strong chose a less trodden path and opted to kick-start a new trend of molecular mixology with the launch of his latest restaurant and bar strongMasalaBar/strong. Replacing a renowned coffee shop that was once located off Carter Road in Bandra, this new resto-bar is quite an innovative space that will surprise you the moment the clock strikes 5 pm./p pandnbsp;/p pstrongFirst Look/strong/p pstrongbr //strong/p pOnce in through the glass door, stairs led us up to the restaurant that is furnished with chic mirror studded walls, wooden furnishing and lenticular prints. What define the purpose of this place are the windows overlooking the pristine shore of Carter Road, offering a breathtaking view of the setting sun. Each window pane is fitted with magnifying glasses giving an amplified view of the sea to those sitting by the wooden tables on high bar stools./p pandnbsp;/p p style="text-align: center;"/p pandnbsp;/p pHowever, what got us intrigued were the candle lit chandeliers and the table top lamps that lent the space a soft glow. In fact, the resto-bar features a stairway next to the entrance that is also lit up with multiple candles, brightening up the bar area even more./p pandnbsp;/p pstrongMaestros of Mixology/strong/p pstrongbr //strong/p pEvery restaurant launched by Zorawar Kalra has something unique about it. While Masala Library is known for its unmatched molecular gastronomy, MasalaBar is your destination to experience molecular mixology, all done in an open bar lab by their mixologists Aman and Arjun. Dapper men in bow-ties created some unimaginable concoctions with international liquors blended with organic ingredients like coconut water, thyme and emsattu/em. Although we wished to sample the entire cocktail menu, we decided otherwise and settled for four concoctions crafted by Arjun, who took us on a journey across Mumbai. From a cocktail named andlsquo; An evening with Chowpattyandrsquo; infused with fresh coconut water, served in a glass caged in wooden structure, accompanied by a miniature version of the emchana zor garam/em, to the andlsquo;Malabar Pointandrsquo; featuring thyme, apple, vodka and absinthe foam, the line up for the evening made sure we were left happy high by the end of the tasting./p pandnbsp;/p p style="text-align: center;"/p pandnbsp;/p pandnbsp;/p pIt was more like a narrative, as every cocktail served told a story and that is something that impressed us enough to plan our next trip to the resto-bar. The food too played a vital role; the chunky mutton boti and the galouti burger sliders complemented our cocktails perfectly. They melted away into the system in a way that we still kept at our next round of drinks./p pandnbsp;/p pemAn evening for two can get you to loosen up for anything between INR 3000 to INR 5000, depending on your liking for cocktails. Remember to book yourself a table at the MasalaBar 5pm onwards to enjoy the setting sun as you relish mind-boggling cocktails./em/p pandnbsp;/p pstrongMore On andgt;andgt; a href="http://www.luxpresso.com/lifestyle/food-drink" target="_blank"Food andamp; Drink/a/strong/p
