Housed within a brand new tower building downtown Bogota and boasting 168 rooms and suites, the W Bogota has successfully established itself in a year from opening as the top luxury contemporary hotel in the Colombian capital. The location in the Santa Barbara district is ideal for both leisure and corporate guests.
While the property perfectly reflects the W Hotels DNA both in terms of interior design and service, it also adds a new level of luxury with an outstanding quality of finishes and facilities. Lighting, furnishings and design details provide a heightened sense of true luxury, as a combination of sophistication and glam.
Close attention has been paid to details which are unique among Bogota´s five star hotels – soundproofing, air-conditioning both for cooling and warming and the most lavish bathrooms, which boast large freestanding bathtubs and separate walk-in showers. With floor to ceiling windows, rooms are abundant in light adding to the overall comfort.
The sense of place is instilled with the legendary El Dorado theme, as a reminder of the historical search for gold, with subtle accents of gold throughout the entire hotel. While the design was executed by Ilan Waisbrod, of New York-based outfit Studio Gaia a U.S. based firm, the actual furnishings were custom made in Colombia of exceptional quality.
The gilded lobby is dressed with 1,200 gold butterflies while the hotel’s destination bar features a cosmic intervention by artist Venuz White. In contrast, the Market Restaurant features a more subdued wood paneled design.
I loved the signature W bed with its creative overhead canopy, crafted from a tactile fabric with a floral motif. The open-plan bathroom with its gold-and-white mosaic wall is separated by a sheer curtain from the room, allowing for recreating equally an intimate or a spacious atmosphere. Dual-sink vanity with gold-framed makeup mirrors add to the comfort of the bathroom.
At Market, the main restaurant of the hotel, I enjoyed an excellent eclectic selection of international dishes with some local flavors too for both breakfast and dinner. The interior design excels once again, turning the space from a bright spot in the morning to an elegant swish mood in the evening.
The W LOUNGE, is the pulsating heart of the hotel, attracting both hotel residents and local guests. AU ROOM is the nightclub of the hotel which operates on Fridays and Saturdays, boasting a magnetic aesthetic enhanced by live music by a professional DJ. Service is not only friendly and genuine but also very efficient and prompt. I have often felt a sense of enthusiasm expressed by many of the young staff – a clear achievement of the W Hotels management. I was particularly impressed by the Front Office and the staff at the Market Restaurant. The W INSIDER provides excellent tips on exploring all facets of Bogota.
