Food Review: Celebrating Mangalorean Cuisine with Four Points by Sheraton Navi Mumbai

p/p pandnbsp;/p pIt has been ages since I savoured a meat delicacy slow cooked in an earthen bowl with flavours that take me back to my hometown. Well, this is what my weekend was about, when I visited the newly opened strongFour Points by Sheraton/strong in Vashi to attend the ongoing Mangalorean food festival at their all-day diner called the strongAsian Kitchen/strong./p pandnbsp;/p pKeeping up with the trend of celebrating regional cuisines this year, Sheraton hosted the city to some delicious local meals prepared by veteran home chefs. A buffet style setting, the menu, curated by homechefs strongVijaya S Bangera/strong and strongRekha S Salian/strong under the guidance of strongExecutive Chef Mukul Jha/strong, featured an array of delicacies comprising non vegetarian, vegetarian and sea food dishes. Excited about the meal, I began the food trail with a bowl of the tomato emrasam /emand emkurimamsa rasam/em (mutton soup)andmdash;just the ideal food for soul. After the soups, we entered the appetisers section where we binged on delicious salads coated with freshly grated coconut, heightened with a emtadka /emof fried mustard seeds. Complementing the salads were the deep fried meat dishes like the emKori /emfried chicken, emAri meen fry semolina coated in rawa/em and empomfret manji fry/em. Guilty pleasure got a whole new definition with these deep fried savouries; the meat was succulent, crispy and deli-style./p pandnbsp;/p pMangalorean meals, known to be really heavy on the stomach, can get a bit too much by the time one is half way through the meal. However, the aroma of the emKochaki anna rice /emand theem chicken gravy/em were drool worthy, enough to coax me to help myself with a serving of it. The foodie in me derived a guilty pleasure in pouring the hot chicken gravy over the crispy kori roti (which is the ideal way to eat it). If you wish to create magic with food, simply add a spoon of the emspicy roasted chickpeas/em to your koriandndash;gravy mixture. Although non-vegetarians have an upper hand when it comes to Mangalorian cuisine, the emparangi hannu gojju/emandndash;a local pineapple delicacyandndash;can clearly turn tables. The sweet-citrusy flavours of the braised and chopped pineapples blended smoothly with the rice and gravy, accentuating the dishandrsquo;s aromatic flavours./p pandnbsp;/p p style="text-align: center;"/p pandnbsp;/p pandnbsp;/p pWe couldnandrsquo;t wait for the best part of the evening. I raced my way to the dessert table that displayed an array of delectable delights like the emgajjar ka halwa/em, embarfi /emand other quick snacks. However, considering my taste for local food had just been provoked, I helped myself to some emvermicelli payasa /em(kheer), emperu halwa/em and my favourite Indian sweetandndash;the emMysore Pak/em. We treated our sweet tooth to some authentically cooked meal through the evening. The food certainly took me back in time, evoking a strong sense of nostalgia in me./p pandnbsp;/p pAvailable for lunch and dinner, the festival is on till February 10th, 2016. You have just a dayandrsquo;s time to relish it./p pandnbsp;/p pstrongMore On andgt;andgt; a href="http://www.luxpresso.com/lifestyle/food-drink" target="_blank"Food andamp; Drink/a/strong/p
