Barceló open Barceló Emperatriz luxury hotel in Madrid

Barceló Hotels & Resorts has opened its flagship hotel in Madrid, Barceló Emperatriz. The former 19th century Palace – which is right in the heart of city’s historical quarter – has been brilliantly transformed into a 146-room, five star hotel.

The design was inspired by Eugenia de Montijo – an Empress consort of the French and one of the most powerful and avant-garde women of her time – and a panel of leading 21st Century women known as “Barceló’s Empresses”.

The architecture blends beautifully into the chic surroundings of the small traditional boutiques, grand embassy buildings and some of Madrid’s most elegant and prestigious streets.

Lying right in the heart Madrid’s Salamanca neighbourhood it is next to the Paseo de la Castellana promenade and Serrano street.

Inside, the hotel’s frescoes and chandeliers, parquet and marble floors, fabric lined walls and cornices have been brilliantly restored and incorporated into the new design.

The luxurious rooms are filled with natural light and fitted with avant-garde furniture and technology that contrasts with the classic details and occasional pieces reminiscent of the Neoclassic identity of the building.
