Food Review: Mumbai's Newest Japanese Escape for Gourmands

p/p pandnbsp;/p pThe last time I walked down the quaint lanes of Juhu in suburban Mumbai was way back in 2009 when I spent my time at one of the most happening pubs back in the day called emRockbottom/em. My recent visit to emRamee Guestline Hotel /emto experience their newly launched Japanese fine dining space called strongRuka/strong, right above the pub, was a revival of those old memories./p pandnbsp;/p pThe perfect destination for those who wish to enjoy a great meal with exotic cocktails and light music andndash; this new suburban restaurant blends the fineness of Japanese cuisine with the perfectly laidback ambience of a lounge bar. Despite my initial scepticism over the experience I was in for, the warm welcome by the staff lent me my first few moments of comfort. The restaurant opens to a grand sofa sitting area on the left, with few tables and chairs set up right ahead. The open kitchen is vital, as watching the chefs prepare your Japanese meal is an experience in itself./p pandnbsp;/p pWe started off with some sushi bar counter, which can either be asked for on the table or one can always help themselves with a serving. Coming to the sushi, letandrsquo;s just say they mastered the delicacy in every biteandndash;right from the texture to the flavours; it was indeed a mouthful of happiness. Complementing our sushi platter was a refreshing minty cocktail, aptly called "emRemember Me"/em. Well, I havenandrsquo;t yet forgotten it!/p pandnbsp;/p p style="text-align: center;"/p p style="text-align: center;"emThe Sushi Platter @ Ruka/em/p pandnbsp;/p pFollowing it up was a platter of freshly grazed emseasonal salad with asparagus, cucumber dressed in maple shichimi/em,em rock shrimp tempura/em and emfried veggies/em. While the starters, we thought, were enough to gratify our craving for an Asian meal, the main course only got us yearning for more. Considering the appetisers involved fish, we chose chicken for the mainsandndash;emthe grilled brined chicken with teriyaki sauce/em and memushroom hotpot rice with miso truffle butter/em. Paired with it perfectly was the special peach Cemaviar Bellini /emwith some bitter grapefruit shanks. Now, if you do take your meal seriously, we suggest, even though you may feel content after a round of starters and mains, do not leave until the dessert has been savoured./p pandnbsp;/p pI opted for the emOmakase Dessert platter/em that perfectly summed the dinner for me. I couldnandrsquo;t have asked for anything better to begin the week with.
