From within the mall itself is a slice of late 50s West Berlin modernism, the view into the new Mykita store at Bikini Mall is one of curved and straight white filigree grids whose mid-sections are home to individual pairs of glasses. The prospect from outside the mall looking in at the shop is broadly similar and the use of track spots above the grid means that this is a space with highlights and lowlights, as far as illumination is concerned, adding to the drama.
The mid-shop is equally uncompromising with cream plinths that are steel filing cabinets and a plain wood floor. The only real hint of colour comes from a graphic on the mall window which is a cross between a 90s Gap advert and an Andy Warhol painting and which bears images of people wearing the product against coloured backgrounds.
