Gleneagles has completed a multi-million dollar refurbishment, refreshing its rooms as well as transforming several of the hotel’s classic spaces into more modern dining options. Opened in 1924, Gleneagles was acquired by Guinness in 1985 and then sold to Ennismore in 2015.
Led by international designers Goddard Littlefair, the hotel’s 232 bedrooms and suites have been updated with a warm country estate feel, including details like antique Persian patterns, herringbone wall coverings, and the addition of lanterns to spotlight room numbers.
Ennismore Design Studio was behind the new design of The Royal Lochnagar, the hotel’s royal suite. Other updates the Royal Lochnagar Suite and the more contemporary Blue Tower Suite, both of which were completely refurbished.
The Birnam Brasserie is the newest restaurant, an all-day dining from a menu using seasonal and locally sourced Scottish produce. The space has a mosaic floor and bistro-style décor, inspired by the grand Parisian cafés of the early twentieth century. Originally the grand drawing room, The Glendevon has been transformed into a residents’ lounge and afternoon tearoom. The American Bar is home to a full set of Gordon & MacPhail Private Collection Ultras whiskies, making it the only bar in the world to have a full set of all four.
Formerly known as the Main Bar, The Century Bar was refurbished by David Collins Studio, with design intended to pay homage to Scotland’s four seasons, with garnet red as the feature color. The bar also prides itself on having one of the country’s finest collections of old and rare whiskies.
