Manfred Thierry Mugler is the latest designer to bring his esthetic to the hotel world, in a new collection that will extend his fashion and perfume line into the world of luxury hotels, resorts and residences.
Mugler joins a long line of fashion designers to add hotelier to his portfolio, bridging the already narrow gap between the two worlds.
Other high-end fashion designers with similar projects include Karl Lagerfeld, whose first branded hotel is slated to open in Macau in 2018, and Giorgio Armani, who opened The Armani Hotel Dubai and The Armani Hotel Milano. Le Bellechasse Saint-Germain in Paris is also designed entirely by Christian Lacroix.
One of the earliest pioneers of the trend, however, is the luxury house of Versace, which opened the Palazzo Versace on Australia’s Gold Coast in 2000.
Meanwhile, Mugler Hotels, Resorts and Residences will feature mixed-use boutique hotels and residential properties, along with cultural and entertainment spaces that will be inspired by Mugler’s experience in show business, where he has directed short films, designed costumes for musicals, concerts, operas, and the theater.
“I used fashion to express myself as much as I could. But at some point, it was not enough,” Mugler said in a statement. ”Designing hotels, residential and entertainment projects is a natural extension of my interests.”
The properties will be designed in partnership with French architect Jean-Paul Cassia and influenced by Mugler’s signature mix of fantasy and imagination.
