With the inauguration of a new president coming, there’s lots of real estate activity in Washington DC and surrounding areas.

This three-bedroom townhouse in Arlington, Virginia was built in 2000 but designed with a Federal style that is popular in the area. The home is  refined and elegant with over 3000 square feet built suitably to inspire any Washingtonian.

The open living space  features Palladian windows, coffered ceilings and Doric columns. Nearly every room of the home contains a nod to classical architecture, connecting this property to the legacy of great architecture in the surrounding areas.

The classic library of Honduran mahogany was custom fabricated to the owner’s specifications. There are 13 fluted ionic pilasters supporting a 36-inch entablature (cornice, frieze, and architrave) with unique and now extinct 18-foot continuous sections (or long runs). Honduras no longer allows mahogany exports over 6-feet in length. The room is warmed by a gas log fireplace hearth surrounded with Italian Giallo Siena marble. Hidden cabinets in library open to extra rollout drawer storage and TV installation.

All three suites are designed with elegant details. The master suite has  full length 3-inch louvered shutters to regulate sunlight. Built-in cabinetry houses the media center and bookshelves in elegant style.

The home’s best feature for entertaining might be the rooftop terrace with views clear to Washington Monument.
