Occupancy at Paris hotels in sharp decline in July

Paris had the worst downturn, according to a junior minister of tourism, who said that Paris’ hotels had an occupancy rate of only 32% in the second half of July, compared with 77% during the year-ago period. Hotels in Nice saw a 45% decline in revenue in the two weeks after the July 14 attack on the city’s seafront promenade, in which 84 people were killed.

The Telegraph used Booking.com to conduct its own search for hotels in Paris between August 15 and 21 and found that of the first 100 properties that had availability, as many as 87 had reduced their rates; the biggest discount offered was 59%.
