Art Meets Home In Azle, Texas

Art can appear in unusual places. In the small town of Azle, Texas, noted muralist Herbert Gabler, has created a unique home that serves as a portfolio for his custom painting business. In many cases, when you buy a home, the first thing you do is paint. Painting this home might decrease value. 451 Stoney Ridge - 42 - Print

Gabler, is a German artist known best for his murals, statues and faux-paintings in private luxury residences around the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex. The home’s décor and interior design is a combination of his favorite past works from Europe and the United States.

“I really admire the Spanish mission style and wanted the house to have a cohesive antique, Spanish design to it,” said Gabler. “I used a lot of faux-painting on the home surfaces to create different textures and effects, like marble columns, weathered concrete floors and faux-exposed brick on some of the walls.”

The  five-bedroom, four-and-one-half bathroom Spanish homes features Mission-style oak doors, crafted by local mill workers. The entry hall opens to a rotunda and skylight, with a mural hand-painted by Gabler, and a 10-foot water fountain replica of the Toltec god from the pyramids of Tula, Mexico, also designed by the seller.

The home runs off of a water well, aerobic sewer system, hot water solar panels and a heat reflective roof coating. The exterior walls are made of Hebel blocks, which are known for their energy efficient, lightweight, fire-resistant qualities. This home is listed for under $1 million.
