Chinese Group opens first European luxury hotel in Brussels – Tangla Hotel

Chinese investment company HNA opened its first European property, the Tangla Hotel Brussels last month. The design incorporates a refined, contemporary approach with the Chinese principle of feng shui.

The name originates from the Tanggula Mountains on the Tibetan plateau in China, and the open design with high ceilings and crafted details, original art, marble, backlit feature walls and custom chandeliers inspired by the movement of the clouds reflect that aesthetic. The large lobby features a floor-to-ceiling wall with custom artwork by Chinese native Yang Fei depicting the Tanggula Mountains. To remain exclusively Chinese, all artisans and craftsmen were sourced regionally across China.

The hotel features 187 rooms, or fángs, and 37 suites, including the Presidential Tàofáng, and a duplex. The rooms are decorated in soft pastels and delicate wooden panels. They feature a marble desk with direct access to a media hub, a 40-inch LED smart TV and smart light automation. The marble bathroom has either a bathtub or walk-in rain shower.

All the rooms are available with either a double bed or two single beds. The plum blossom, China’s national flower and symbol of resilience and perseverance, is the feature of the guestroom carpets, whose neutral tones of blue and green are inspired by the mountain landscape.

The hotel has several restaurants, including the Tang Dynasty, offering traditional Chinese cuisine, and it features dark wooden floors, lowered ceilings and orange silk wall coverings. Other details include black metal screens with glass insets, and carpet designs with characteristics of stylized dragons. Contemporary all-day dining is offered at LeCinq and the TLounge and bar. At My Little Basket, a hybrid delicatessen with a room-service menu, the guest can either buy the food on the go or order it to be served in their room.

Meeting and event spaces include the Imperial Ballroom. Auspicious clouds are a key notion in Chinese culture and are the symbol of blessing and good luck, hence their importance within the event spaces and the Imperial Ballroom. The carpets throughout these areas are a collection of these “lucky” clouds, continually changing shape and tone. The Imperial Ballroom chandelier incorporates 29,000 individual Zonka crystals forming a silhouetted composition of their shapes.

In 2017, a spa and wellness area with an indoor pool will be added.
