The new Saks Fifth Avenue store in Toronto at Eaton Town Centre — the first in Canada — is also the first flagship store for the brand in more than 40 years.
Built on 169,000 square feet of space carved out of the Hudson’s Bay store on Queen St. at Yonge St., the Saks occupies four floors given over to luxury brands in an opulent setting.
Saks features brands such as Dior,Valentino, Louis Vuitton, Saint Laurent, Chloé, Céline, Prada, Alexander McQueen, Stella McCartney, Givenchy and Azzedine Alaïa. The jewelry and watches selection includes Pomellato, Piaget, Marco Bicego and H.Stern.
The Hudson’s Bay store next to Saks has been renovated from top to bottom. The two spaces remain linked by a pedestrian walkway on the upper level. Entering on the ground floor, shoppers can choose Saks on the left or Hudson’s Bay on the right.
The Saks opening on Thursday will mark the first in a series of major retail grand openings this year, bringing in Seattle-based department store retailer Nordstrom, a new Holt Renfrew, and Maison Simons, a Quebec retailer that sells low- and high-end goods.
