The St. Regis opens in Astana Fall 2017

St. Regis Hotels & Resorts announces the forthcoming debut of The St. Regis Astana in Fall 2017. Developed by MG Holding, The St. Regis Astana marks the entry of the St. Regis brand in Kazakhstan and will bring a new level of opulence and glamour to the city through a design scheme that reinterprets traditional Kazakh art and architecture in a modern way.

“Astana is quickly emerging as a global hub for business and leisure travelers alike, and we are thrilled to be able to pioneer luxury hospitality in this market,” said Luciano Sozzo, General Manager, The St. Regis Astana. “We look forward to welcoming both guests and locals to experience the unmatched level of service and sense of style that is going to make The St. Regis Astana the new social epicenter of the city.”

Located inside Astana’s Central Park, guests of The St. Regis Astana will be given a serene escape from the bustling downtown with views of the park and the Ishim River. From the city’s most coveted address, guests are also in close proximity to landmarks including the Bayterek Tower and Independence Square, as well as the Khan Shatyr Entertainment Center, Astana Opera, and embassies.

Created by award winning WATG and Wimberly Interiors, the hotel’s design seamlessly blends Kazakhstan’s heritage and ancient traditions with the modern glamour and sophistication for which the St. Regis brand is known. Guests arriving to the hotel will be greeted by a natural tree-lined avenue leading to a contemporary courtyard where the layout is inspired by that of an indigenous yurt. Set above the ground level of the park, the courtyard links the hotel, residences, and retail. At night the bronze materials used in its creation, carved with traditional Kazakh patterns and motifs, will light the area with a gentle glow.

All elements of the hotel design take inspiration from the horsemanship and nomadic culture of Kazakhstan, providing guests with a link to the country’s ancient history. An ornate lobby will feature marquee Eglomise mirrors with bronze metal detailing, set against a backdrop of patterned timber flooring and crystal chandeliers. This space also features rugs and lamps that showcase traditional Kazakh style, while the furniture is embroidered with patterns commonly used in Kazakh culture. The hotel will also feature a grand staircase, a signature St. Regis design element.

Over 400 pieces of contemporary art created by both local and international artists complement the interior design. Catching the eye of visitors, a captivating hallmark mural found in The St. Regis Bar depicts the golden Samruk, a Phoenix-like bird, which is an important part of Kazakh mythology. The curation of the signature mural is a collaborative effort between the Kazakh artist Aigana Gali and French designer Celine Alexandre. Through this artwork, artisan finishes, regal features, and luxurious textures, The St. Regis Astana pays homage to the city’s history while clearly articulating its future.

The St. Regis Astana will feature 120 guest rooms, including 23 suites, and 50 residences. Spacious guest rooms have been styled with an individual Juliette balcony and come with a separate living area that includes original, local artwork, marble bathrooms with a separate shower and bathtub, and Remède bath amenities.

An expansive  Presidential Suite occupies the top floor of the hotel and offers custom designed furniture, a study room, dining room that comfortably seats ten guests, wine vault, drawing room, an extensive bathroom that includes a sauna, and a 139 sqm outdoor terrace with a Jacuzzi, and private dining facilities.  All rooms and suites include the signature St. Regis Butler service.

Two hotel restaurants and The St. Regis Bar will draw from regional and international cuisine, and the venues have been designed to allow the chefs and the preparation to be an integral part of the dining experience. “The dining venues were designed to highlight a fondness for entertaining and bringing guests together around a communal table that is found in traditional Kazakh culture,” said Rachel Johnson, Lead Interior Designer and Vice President, Wimberly Interiors.

The design of the Iridium Spa creates an intimate and serene ambience that allows guest to reflect on their destination. The spa also integrates the latest innovations in beauty and features an indoor swimming pool and several treatments areas.

Referencing the rich history of special events, an integral part of the Kazakh culture, and the exclusive parties organized by Mrs. Astor, mother of the founder of The St. Regis New York, The St. Regis Astana will create and play host to distinguished events in more than 1000 sqm of private event space, the Astor Ballroom, and six meeting rooms.
