Louis Vuitton debuts smartwatch Tambour Horizon

Louis Vuitton is releasing its first Tambour smartwatch worldwide in order to attract the millennial generation. Three models of the Tambour Horizon smartwatch will go on sale, with every part of the watch — including case designs and preloaded apps — developed by Louis Vuitton.

In addition to time, the touchscreen dial displays phone calls, text, email and calendar notifications. The watch can connect to smartphones with Android and iOS operating systems via Bluetooth, and has a function that searches for nearby tourist spots. In addition, functions like “My Flight” feature informs travelers of flight times, gate information, reports of delays, or the number of hours remaining before landing.

The luxury look and feel comes from leather straps boasting the LV stripe, monogram and checkerboard pattern, as well as a completely tailored operating system (another first) with built-in features such as the company’s famed travel guides. Only available in one size, the Tambour Horizon comes in three variations: polished, satin-finished and all black.

“It’s something that is pretty new on the market and at the same time very interesting,” says Hamdi Chatti, vice-president of watches and jewellery at LV.

The watches will be sold online and at select stores starting from this Tuesday, with prices ranging from $2,430 USD to $3,300 USD.
