Mori Trust Co., the largest owner and Marriott franchisee in Japan will develop The Tokyo Edition, Ginza, and The Tokyo Edition, Toranomon, which are expected to open in 2020.
“Tokyo serves as the perfect setting for the Edition brand, presenting the best of the world’s cultural and social milieu for travellers who seek exceptional places and experiences,” said Anthony Capuano, executive vice president and global chief development officer, Marriott International.
Miwako Date, president and CEO of Mori Trust, added, “I am convinced that from these two Edition hotels new values of a new era that attract the world’s people can be sent to the world at the best timing of 2020 when the Tokyo Olympic Games will be held.”
The Tokyo Edition, Ginza, will be a newly built 13-storey standalone property with 80 guestrooms located just off Chuo Street, the main shopping street in Ginza. Construction is expected to start in May 2018, with an opening planned for March 2020.
Meanwhile, the 200-key Tokyo Edition Toranomon will be built as part of a redevelopment of the former Pastoral Building, a mixed-use project comprising offices, residences and a medical center located in Minato ward. Site excavation work has started, with the hotel opening planned for 2020.
