In a prime location, steps from Elysée Palace and the American Embassy, La Reserve Paris, a member of the exclusive circle of Palace hotels, overlooks the roofs of the Pantheon and, in the near distance, the Grand Palais and the Eiffel Tower. The hotel is a few minutes’ walk from the Tuileries Gardens, Place Concorde and Champs-Elysées, and steps from the prestigious luxury shopping mecca of Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré. Therefore, thanks to its neighbors, La Reserve Paris boasts one of the safest locations in Paris.
The Haussmann-style building which houses the hotel was built in 1854 for Duc de Morny, the half-brother of Napoleon III. Though five of the original fireplaces remain, the interior has been completely redesigned by Jacques Garcia, who was inspired by the paintings of James Tissot. 250 tons of marble and 6,000 meters of fabric went into his vision to recreate the period ambiance. The owner, millionaire Michel Reybier, aimed to conceive a deeply residential feel by recreating an inviting aristocratic home.
Jacques Garcia used a dramatic palette of black, white and gold, with flourishes of peacock green and ruby in the public spaces, and pale champagnes and greys in the bedrooms. Furniture – whether antique tables or ornate chairs by Henriot – combines Louis XV decadence with exotic Chinoiserie. Walls are mirrored or lined in gold or silvery Rubinelli silk or heavy ruby velvet; furnishings covered in damascene brocade with heavy fringing; oak parquet flooring covered with Persian rugs; and lighting low, with electric-candles casting a warm glows on to walls.
Public spaces include a British style library with a wide collection of books, a Fumoir (cigar room), an all-day dining restaurant La Pagode de Cos, the patio of the courtyard, Le Bar and the two Michelin starred Le Gabriel Restaurant. I had the pleasure to dine at La Pagode de Cos, which serves international and Asian cuisine. My meal was delicious and service was attentive and efficient. However, throughout the public spaces, the hotel may improve service by recognizing guests by the name.
The Spa at La Reserve Paris boasts a stunning 16-meter indoor heated swimming pool with three spa treatment rooms and . La Réserve Paris spa offers Nescens-Swiss anti-aging science cosmeceutical products. Born of the medical expertise of the Center for the Prevention of Aging at the Clinique de Genolier (Switzerland), created by Professor Jacques Proust, a pioneer in the realm of aging biology and anti-aging medicine. I had an amazing facial, with a highly skilled and talented therapist, achieving a glowing look instantly after the treatment.
Rooms and suites are generously sized, among the largest in Paris, each with a large marble bathroom with Toto toilets, a spacious wardrobe built from heavy oak and a space dedicated to the honor bar which offers complimentary soft drinks, sweets and snacks. The large feather beds are exceptionally comfortable featuring high-thread Quagliotti linen. There is a Pad for controlling TV, lighting, room temperature and curtains. Rooms are perfectly soundproof – maybe the quietest in Paris – both indoors and outdoors. Some of the rooms and suites feature large mirror-enclosed HD Tvs in the bedrooms, thus creating a Wow factor. Housekeeping provides an impeccable service making rooms look immaculate at all times.
The traditional Front Office and Concierge desks are replaced by a personalized service to each guest, check-in being made in-room. All Guest Relations services are provided by a specialized team, headed by the Duty Manager. They have promptly replied to my requests, including the change of my suite, to please my preferences. Mention should be made that only a small number of suites boast views of the Grand Palais and Eiffel Tower, most of the other rooms and suites overlooking the courtyard or the nearby lateral street.
Besides the hotel guests which are mostly international, La Reserve Paris attracts a solid base of Parisians to its outlets, including the Le Gabriel Restaurant, Le Bar and the three terraces of the hotel – the patio of the courtyard, the terrace of the Fumoir and the terrace of Le Gabriel on Avenue Gabriel. This makes for a great mix of guests, creating a sophisticated cosmopolitan customer base. This is a major achievement for a hotel which is less than 3 years old.
